SUDS

Saturday 18th October 2008
Midlothian Ski Centre
Edinburgh

About:

SUDS is the Scottish Universities Dryslope Championships which takes place annually at Midlothian Ski Centre on the outskirts of Edinburgh. It is an opportunity for ski and snowboard enthusiasts to take part in competitive events, socialise and celebrate their love of snowsports. It is also and opportunity for people to introduce themselves to these sports and the culture that revolves around them.

SUDS takes place over a full day and contains competitive events for both skiers and snowboarders, freestylers and racers. These are designed to both push the top athletes to their limits and encourage new competitors to become more engaged in these disciplines.

Disciplines:

All the disciplines listed below are open to both male and female competitors, whether skier or snowboarder.

Racing

Giant Slalom

A fast flowing race course which is known for producing some spectacular viewing and high adrenaline experience for the competitors.

Individual Dual Slalom

Head to head racing on parrallel courses means this is a great event to both watch and take part in.

Team Dual Slalom

Run on the same courses as the Individual Dual Slalom, this is a team based relay event which provides a combination of intense rivalry, unpredictable results and an incredibly exciting atmosphere.

Freestyle

Big Air

Always guaranteed to be a huge crowd pleaser, this event requires a combination of flair, confidence and a head for heights. Competitors take turns at pulling their best tricks off specially created jumps...and then try to land safely. Judges mark each rider on a selection of criteria.

Rail Jam

Similar in principle to the Big Air event, a Rail Jam sees competitors take turns at performing grind tricks on a selection of rails and boxes. Again, a panel of judges determines who has performed the best.

Slopestyle

A combination of both Big Air and Rail Jam is the simplest way to describe a slopestyle. Competitors are presented with a selection of jumps, rails, boxes and anything else they can perform tricks on (barrels, tables etc). This discipline not only requires the technical skill of other freestyle events, but ingenuity and originality in what they perform in a single run.

Entertainment:

SUDS wouldn't be SUDS without entertainment. This ranges from Music and refreshments at the slope to a full evening line up of live bands (TAKING CHASE & DIRTBOX) and DJs. This is a great way for everyone to celebrate and unwind after a long day of snowsports, as well as presenting the perfect opportunity to hold prize giving for the days competitions...but who will be victorious?

This year, along with the usual prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each event category, there will be an overall SUDS Champion University crowned. Results from all events during the day will be taken in to account, so make sure your university has plenty of competitors entered.
